"I think that the “Desperate Love” video poem performance portrayed by real people gives a vital message to and about addicts trying to change their lives. The love addict’s crave can't be realized in a quick tryst or a brief relationship any more than can heroin be a long term cure for loneliness and depression. There is no quick answer for attaining lasting happiness. “Chasing that love all over the place” portrays the lessons in futility facing active addicts. The words and phrases in this beautiful poetic rendering are so essential for the recovering person to grasp during the long-term process of recovery. Phrases such as, “learn from the mistakes of others,” “admit the truth,” “stop being afraid,” and “be true to yourself,” are quintessential elements for an addict to achieve a durable clean and sober lifestyle. I commend poet and psychiatrist, Diane Kaufman, MD, for her artistic portrayal of a problem that plagues people all over the world."

AuthorAs a child, Diane Kaufman wrote in her grade school composition that when she grew up she wanted to be a "medical doctor or a medical drawer." Her passion as expressed in poetry, story, and art seeks to inspire positive transformation, to help "humanize" our life experiences, to increase our connection with each other, and bring awareness of Arts Medicine as valuable in promoting and nurturing health, healing and well being.
